Pet friendly Holidays

Pembrokeshire is an excellent place to bring your dog for a pet friendly holiday. The Pembrokeshire National Park is renowned for its coastal walks, its beaches and its inland countryside. All excellent locations for you to spend quality time with your pet while on holiday. Our luxury Pembrokeshire Courtyard Holiday Cottages are ideally located only 5 miles from the Pembrokeshire Coastline, and a similar distance from the Preslli hills. We offer pet friendly accommodation - see our pet friendly accommodation page. Our holiday cottages are not only pet friendly, they are also furnished to very high standards for the comfort of their 2 legged owners. Please see more details of all our luxury Holiday Cottages. We would suggest that the best time to come to Pembrokeshire for a pet friendly holiday is during the spring, autumn and winter. Your dog won't find it too hot and you and your best friend will have the beaches all to yourselves. We hope the information below will be helpful if you are considering bringing your dog on holiday to Pembrokeshire.

Dogs in the Pembrokeshire National Park.
The coastal path stretches for 186 miles, more than enough for even the most energetic dog. There are plenty of spectacular views to take in along the way. The Pembrokeshire National Park also includes the rolling Preselli Hills and the Gwaun valley, near Fishguard, which was made a Site of Special Scientific Interest in 1954.

Dogs need to be kept under control for their own safety since the coastal path follows the cliff edge very closely in places, and you are likely to come across wildlife and farm animals in the Park. There are over 500 stiles along the entire path, to which dog gates are being fitted, however until this work is completed these may cause problems for older and larger dogs.

The coastal bus services welcome dogs aboard, providing they are on a lead and clean. Details of routes and timetables may be obtained by visiting the Pembrokeshire Greenways website.

Dogs on Beaches.
The Pembrokeshire National Park has over 50 beaches, all of which welcome dogs. During the height of the summer 1st May – end of September, some of the busier beaches (Poppit Sands, Newgale and a lot of the beaches in the Tenby area) have restricted areas for dogs. Whitesands has a total ban on dogs during this period.

The restricted areas are detailed on notice boards at each of the beaches. This still leaves many miles of beaches that you can enjoy with your dog. However the ideal time to come on holiday to Pembrokeshire with your dog is during the spring, autumn and winter.

The nearest beach to the Pembrokeshire Courtyard Holiday Cottages is Poppit Sands- this is a firm favourite with local dog owners as well as those seeking a pet friendly holiday in this beautiful corner of Wales. To see a picture of Poppit please see our Pet friendly beaches page.

Dogs in the Countryside.
Pembrokeshire has many miles of footpaths, bridle ways and rights of way. The Pembrokeshire Courtyard Holiday Cottages are only a few miles away from the Preselli Hills, which are part of the Pembrokeshire National Park. These hills provide excellent moorland walks with superb views down to the coastline. For everyone’s enjoyment please follow the Country Code and close gates behind you and keep dogs under control near other animals. Dogs are not allowed into the nature reserves or the Pembrokeshire islands, except Caldey Island.
