2005 GUEST COMMENTS FOR SECRET COTTAGE

We have included every comment from our visitor's book - without any editing.

Thank you all for your kind comments. We are delighted to see that you have enjoyed your time in Pembrokeshire, and particularly at the Pembrokeshire Courtyard Holiday Cottages. Some of the commonest terms used to describe holidays at Secret cottage include - excellent, great, wonderful and beautiful. Don't take our word for it please read on -

Isuru, Farin, Shammi, Ifian, Collin, Dinesh & Sena (April 05) – ‘Secret cottage’ – ‘beautiful’. We crashed in for a weekend from London. It’s great had a fab time. Relaxing, nature surroundings, Wow! Had a great time. We loved it !

London friends (April 05) – We came here to explore Wales. The serenity of the surroundings left us breathless. The cottage was superb. Everything was catered for. We will be back for more, hopefully for a longer time. Thank you very much to Tanya and Dylan. ‘We felt at home’.

Mr & Mrs Brown (May 05) – As nice as told, WILL be back again and inform other people how nice it is here. Thanks, Mr. Brown. Very relaxing felt at home nice that pets are welcome who are well behaved. Looking forward to our next visit. Thanks, Mrs. C.Brown. PS. Flowers are a nice touch.

The Fay family (May 05) – Well appointed cottage in an area we love.

Mr. & Mrs Chisholm, Mrs Chisholm (senior)& Mrs. Kesterton (June 05) - We ALL really enjoyed our stay at Secret cottage which was an excellent base to tour around Pembrokeshire. We were satisfied with all aspects of the cottage and even though we had a couple of problems initially we found staff helpful and owners sympathetic until things sorted. Would recommend these facilities to anyone who wants to come to south Wales, and would encourage visits to the following:- LOCAL – New Quay, Aberporth, Aberaeron, Cilgerran, Cenarth WIDER AFIELD – Narbeth, Saundersfoot, Tenby ( a must), Broad Haven South which is near Bosherton, Carew castle and mill, St David’s Cathedral and Bishop’s Palace, Chocolate factory near Llanboidy, Haverfordwest is nice little town ( but hilly for elderly) B4325 road over hills gives best views of county on clear day. MEALS RECOMMENDED – ‘Cliff Hotel’ at Gwbert, ‘Pendre Inn’ Cilgerran (a must), ‘Pen-y-Bryn Inn’ just through Cilgerran, ‘Coracle’ restaurant at caravan complex) just outside Cenarth (a must). All these were very good.

Ian, Karen & Keri Rimmer (June 05) – Tanya and Dylan have found a piece of Heaven here and I want to stay !! The cottage is beautiful and there is so much storage space and also everything you would ever need. The library is very well stocked, didn’t get a chance to play football or table tennis though. Walks along the river are so peaceful, seeing kingfishers and cormorants, birds of prey in the surrounding fields. – word of warning – don’t walk to Cilgerran on a Sunday evening for something to eat- nobody serves meals. The Cardiff Arms there though is a very Welsh, friendly pub. The Carpenters Arms in Llechryd is a very friendly place too, and the food at the Nags Head is delicious. Mwnt beach is a must see, beautiful sheltered cove, as we parked there were dolphins ! seals ! in the sea, but unfortunately they’d disappeared by the time we got down to the beach. For children: the Shire Farm @ Eglwyswrw is really good and Tenby is only 45 mins away. What else can I say other than I can’t wait to come back. Thanks for a magical time ! Karen.

John, Adrienne & Noah (July ’05) Had a lovely time visiting beautiful beaches – Mwnt and Poppit Sands – the later being dog friendly. Saw loads of wildlife including dolphins ! Great river walks too. A great family / pet place to stay ! The wildlife is lovely. – Noah (5)

The Toms family (July ’05) Lovely clean cottage. River walks much enjoyed. Area beautiful, nice to bring our dogs. Johns Kitchen, Cardigan for good fish & chips ! B4329 had lovely views, enjoyed Poppit and Mwnt. Week over too soon !

Jane, Brian, Brian & Emily Limage. Pat & John Dewie (Aug 05) We had the most wonderful week, would love to live in the Courtyard. We had some lovely meals at Carpenters Arms, Enjoyed everything and will be back next year, but for 2 weeks or forever. Please forward the large sofa to our address.

Thomas, Alethea, William, Evie and Ned Elliott (Aug 05) Very nice rooms. And lots to do, but new ping pong bats are required. Worth booking at the local pubs to make sure of a table for an evening meal. Food at hotel is very good. Watch out for the otters !

Ian, Rebecca, Freddie & Georgie Jones (Sept 05) Our first visit to the area and already looking forward to the next. An idyllic spot with plenty to see and do within easy reach. Particularly enjoyed the Teifi Valley Steam Railway, Mwnt beach and St Davids. The Honey Farm on the way to Mwnt beach ( a new attraction) also well worth a visit. The cottage has provided an excellent base for our day trips, as well as being welcoming and cosy for time spent indoors. With two very young children, have also appreciated the enclosed Courtyard and lack of vehicles nearby. What else is there for me to say except thank you for a super week in the super Secret Cottage and we’ll be back !

Richard, Christine & Allen Try (Sept 05) Beautiful cottages in a wonderful setting, lovely walk along the river, the nature reserve at Cilgerran is well worth a visit. “Food for Thought” a café on the High St in Cardigan is excellent ! Minus points: the cottage is far from toddler friendly and unfortunately we left after 3 nights. The hard floors mean every fall for a child learning to walk is a major incident (ie loads of crying) and there is no bath ( we will admit to not doing our research at this point as we booked in a hurry) Most importantly, the cot provided is inadequate – hard mattress – we have a similar design from Mothercare and now wish we had brought it with us ! It is impossible to black out the windows and so he would not sleep before 9-10pm and cried a lot in the evening. We decided to leave early for our own sanity and in consideration to othe holiday makers as they did not come away to hear a baby crying. Centreparcs here we come…! NOTE FROM OWNERS – We provide ‘Mamas & Papas’ cots, which are one of the top quality brands on the market and they carry the British Kite Mark Standard. We received an e mail from Dr. Try a few days later stating that they had 'booked inappropriate accommodation for our needs'–and that 'I will be passing your details to my senoir partner who asked me to let her know what the cottages were like. We would be very happy to come back when Alex is older'.

John, Nicola, Sion, and Steffan Daniels. Gwen (Jack Russel- hates rabits) & Sali (labrador, old + lazy). (Sept 05) Lovely cottage, well equipped and in a beautiful setting. Boys enjoyed the fishing despite not catching much ! Dogs also enjoyed but shame about smell of humans ! The games room and Sky TV were a huge bonus especially with two teenagers. Now want to come and stay in all the others ! We’ll be back hopefully !

Kay and Anthony (Sept 05) Lovely cottage in a beautiful Courtyard. Look out for the otters when walking along the riverbank. And seals off the coast when walking along coastal paths !

Williams family (Sept 05) A superb cottage in a fantastic location, although we failed to observe the otters along the river. Nor did we see seals, perhaps we will be fortunate next time. The week sped past !

Rosemary Bowers & Ben the dog (Oct 05) You can never be certain from brochures what a holiday cottage is really like – This cottage was beyond my expectations. What a very special experience it has been. Secret cottage has everything you could possibly need for a self catering holiday. Superb accommodation, stunning scenery, secluded but not isolated, very dog friendly, loads of walks – the riverside on the doorstep, Ben loved Poppit Sands – such space and at this time of year not crowded either. We went twice and the second time we were the only people there ! We’ve enjoyed good weather and have tried a few eating places. We can recommend the Carpenters Arms, walking distance and friendly hosts – not dog friendly though. We spent a good few hours watching salmon leap up the falls at Cenarth – what a unique experience ! – but mostly we’ve had a wonderfully relaxing holiday. Ben and I will be back. Thanks Tanya + Dylan for creating this idyllic place !

Priscilla Richardson (Oct 05) A truly memorable holiday in a very welcoming and comfortable house. Everything here that is needed and many extras, including comfy settees and Sky TV. Favourite walk – cross over the road at the end of the drive, follow the lane until you come to the small church. Open the door for an unforgettable surprise. Thank you.

Otto, Val, Anna, Stefan, Jo & Marri Klimach & Iolo the dog (Oct 05) We had a wonderful first trip to the cottages. On rainy days the boys enjoyed muddy dens in the woods + on the river-bank. On less rainy days we enjoyed local walks (so nice to forget the car) & pubs. Whitesands bay amazing in wild weather. Anna determined to buy a cardigan in Cardigan ! The cottage is comfy & very “secret”. Can’t wait for our next stay; we went home very relaxed after our escape to this peaceful haven.

Rees family (Oct 05) We had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed our 3 nights in Secret cottage. Although the weather was typical for this time of year the cosy cottage and local pubs more than made up for it. St Davids is a cool place to visit and the local walks and bike rides are good fun. We’ll be back.

The Baskett family (Nov ’05) We have enjoyed a most comfortable stay here. Off season we had great fun at Mwnt, Poppit Sands and Newport beaches. Unfortunately many of the attractions for children closed on 31st October ( Wildlife centre & Cardigan Park) + our ½ term hols are this week – never mind ! Plenty to do with Pongo the Labrador! Llys-y–fran reservoir + country park worth a visit. Games room + table tennis a bonus ! Thank you Tanya + Dylan for making us welcome !
