2010  River cottage Guest Comments

We have included every comment from our Visitor's book - without any editing. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your kind comments. We are delighted to see that you have enjoyed your stay in Pembrokeshire, and particularly your short break / holiday at the Pembrokeshire Courtyard Holiday Cottages.
Our 3 dogs love hearing how much your dogs have enjoyed their stay at our pet friendly cottages ! We haven't heard of a dog yet that hasn't been bowled over by their walks / runs / swims on the beautiful Pembrokeshire Beaches!
The views expressed represent those of our guests, for which we take no responsibility.

John + Pat Forsdike (Jan’10). Very grateful thanks to Raymond and Denise Watson for inviting us to celebrate New Year with them. The cottage was very comfortable, especially the log fire – thanks Lee for keeping us topped up with logs. The surrounding countryside is captivating and we will certainly return to the area at some point in the future. New Years Day saw quite heavy snow which transformed the cottage complex into a scene from a Christmas card. Thanks to Matthew and Annie for their company and especially the cooked breakfasts – they set us up for the day! John & Pat x

Annie and Matthew Cavill (Jan ’10). It is very difficult to add to the comments of Pat and John. We have had a lovely break. Fantastic company. Denise, Tay + Lee extended a very warm welcome to us. The surroundings and cottage together with the company of Denise, Ray, Lee, Pat and John has made this New Year one that we will always treasure. Zuki who is man’s best friend gave us plenty of encouragement to explore the surrounding countryside. One of our New Year’s resolutions is that we would like to return here again. Thank you Denise, Ray & Lee for a lovely New Year. Annie & Matthew xx.

Ray & Denise Watson (Jan ’10). This is our third stay at Courtyard Cottages. I think that says it all. We will be back. Ray & Denise xxxx

Yvonne & Dave (Feb’10). 1ststay at River Cottage – very peaceful & romantic. Couldn’t fault the Carpenter’s Arms – welcoming, huge portions – no problems.

Vanessa, Nicole & Gertie (the mutt!) (Apr ’10). Absolutely stunning location, beautiful walks along the river, gorgeous country drives – green everywhere. Gertie was in heaven, and we had a great time alternating between hill walking & lazing around the cottage following the sun - the courtyard, the balcony and back to the courtyard. P.s. Golden Lion in Newport after a climb up Carnigli serves great food & dog friendly inside!

Andy, Sue, Archie and Bella (Apr’10). River cottage is beautiful and catered for all of our needs and more! Location was fantastic, river walks amazing and our two dogs didn’t want to leave. Great base to travel around Pembrokeshire.

Jeff + Lynn Harrison, Ed + Kate Forkgen (May’10). River cottage is one of the most comfortable cottages we have ever stayed in with its sumptuous sofas + cosy beds. The location is lovely and we leave with many happy memories – the riverside walk to Cilgerran Castle; the spectacular walk around Dinas Head; the beautiful sunset watched form the Gwbert viewpoint; the delicious food at the beach-side cafes in Llanrannog (whilst watching the waves crashing onto the rocks!). All in all a wonderful week, with some of the best Welsh weather we’ve ever experienced.

Kath and Dave Bargh plus Kava and Straw the flatcoats (May’10). A very happy week here for us – Thank you! The Caws Cenarth Cheese farm was simply a delight – as were the local hedgerows. Truly stunning at this time of year. Seeing dolphins off Strumble Head was truly thrilling and made our stay!

Elkington, Lushington, Mattock (Jun’10). What a wonderful, relaxing long weekend. Golden sunshine and everything in bloom. Swimming at White Sands, walking through Cenarth pools, roasting local trout with almonds – great boat trip around Ramsey Island with Wildlife Adventure Boat Trips (St Davids). Saw seals, shags, razorbills, chuffs and Guillemots. Thank you for a lovely, restful and very comfortable stay! This is a gem of a place. Best wishes Gaia, Hania, Jake & Kath.

No name given (Jun’10). Great place, good fishing. Hotel restaurant v. good for food and friendly staff.

Ian, Pat & Tom (Jul’10). A peaceful week in pleasant surroundings in a very picturesque region. Our highlights this week have been Ritek Valley Quad Bikes (especially good on a wet day! Loads of mud!); Venture Jet ‘Wet & Wild’ trip around Ramsey Island (yes, you do get wet!), where we were privileged to see many seals, porpoises and sea birds; Whitesands Bay – good for surfing & body boarding. We enjoyed he Nags Head at Abercych, good ‘pub food’; Cnapan at Newport and also Castell Malgwyn up the drive. All in al it has been a good mix of relaxation and activities and we didn’t come across one unhelpful or unfriendly person all week!! What more could one ask!

Marianne, Phil, Bethan (3 ½) & Harry (2) Holt, (Jul’10). We’ve had a wonderful week in such comfortable accommodation. Phil caught his first Sewin and had some great days with the Teifi River Guides. We enjoyed a day at Folly Farm – great for toddlers - & enjoyed Poppit Sands & Mwnt. We will be back!

The Smith Family (Aug’10). We have had a wonderful time, great location, our boys loved fishing by the river & our dog loved it too! Thank you for a really memorable holiday!

Everitt Family (Sep’10).  A beautiful place – both location and cottage. Spacious, comfortable & peaceful, we will return. Seven Stars is village does decent pub food, very friendly welcome, including our toddler. Abdul’s takeaway in Cardigan excellent. For visitors with young children recommend Coastal Farm Park, Dyfed Shire Horse Farm, beaches at Aberporth and Tenby.

Mr and Mrs Clay & Mrs & Mrs Caddy & 3 very happy springers (Oct’10). Everything we could have wished for and more.

Marianne, Phil, Bethan, Harry & Bump Holt, Geoff & Janet Guiddon (Oct ’10). Once again a timely relaxing break in beautiful surroundings. The salmon defeated Phil, but we had 10 nice trout. Lovely days out again to Poppit, Folly Farm & cardigan Island Farm Park – great for toddlers & parents alike. We hope to come back once again!

Nick & Julie, Skye & Kyle Marsden (Oct’10). We’ve really enjoyed our short stay at River Cottage. What a pleasure to come home after walking all day and settling down in front of a roaring (purring more like!) wood burning stove with a glass of wine and 2 snoring dogs. They’ve walked their paws off. The weather has been kind to us, especially on Saturday. It was glorious blue sky and sun here all day. Our highlights: The river walk from the cottage – saw a kingfisher; the coastal walk heading to Moylegrove from Poppit Sands. We saw seal pups in the sheltered coves; the coastal walk from Tresaith to Penbryn beach (need to be reasonably fit as up and down), which is lovely. Treath Llyn beach from Abereiddy (check out the blue lagoon); Porthmelgan Cove from Whitesands Bay. Sunday lunch was good at the Nags Head at Abercych, the portions were huge! (Home cooking – no frills).

Karen & Sean & Costa (choc lab 4 ½), (Oct’10). We had a lovely time this week. Visited the beaches at Mwnt, Aberporth and Llangrannog. Our favourite was Llangrannog as it’s a great beach with several coves and a fab beach café with lovely homemade ice cream in 20 flavours. Pleasant riverside walk to the castle at Cilgerran but don’t forget your National Trust cards if you are members as you won’t get in! Great walk around Dinas Head, approx 1 ½ hours with a lovely pub/café at the start/end, The Old Sailors. Newport Sands / estuary was really good with Costa taking a swim for the first time. We had a nice Indian meal on board a boat in Cardigan – The Royal Indian, and a meal at the Hotel Castell Malgwyn just up the road which was excellent. We hope to return again!

Stephanie, Mark & Dennis (the Cockapoo – 2yrs) (Dec’10). A very relaxing weekend in a beautiful cottage with wonderful walks right on your doorstep! The log burner was definitely needed as extremely cold weather but beautiful sunshine meant we had lovely walks to Poppit Sands and Mwnt Beach (stunning). Also fabulous views on coastal path walk from Mwnt – well worth a visit. Peaceful and relaxing – just what the Dr ordered! Hope to return in the summerJ.
