Due to its location on the far south west tip of Wales, Pembrokeshire is bathed by the Gulf Stream. This gives the county a mild climate, and indeed Pembrokeshire can boast some of the sunniest spots in Britain. 5 Day Local Weather Report
In the north of the county Welsh is still widely spoken, whereas in the south English is the dominant language. This stems from Norman times, when after their successful invasion of the south of the county, the Normans built a line of castles to protect their conquest. This effectively divided north and south Pembrokeshire, and its effects are still evident today in the language and culture. This divide is known as the Landsker line, which takes its origin from a Norse word meaning ‘frontier’. Hence south Pembrokeshire is often referred to as the ‘Little England beyond Wales’

One of the most impressive castles is Pembroke castle in the south. This was the birth place of the Welshman Harri Tudur, who became Henry VII, the first of the Tudor monarchs: father to the infamous Henry VIII, and grandfather to Elizabeth I.
Pembrokeshire, together with Anglesey is particularly rich in megalithic sites. Of particular note is Pentre Ifan Cromlech, a burial chamber near Newport, which still has its great 16½ ft (5m) capstone in place.
Pembrokeshire is also home to the ‘city’ of St. Davids. Reputedly the birth place of St. David – the patron saint of Wales. St. Davids is situated in the middle of the spectacular peninsula, with the same name. Its impressive cathedral affords this small hamlet city status. More detail on Pembrokeshire Heritage & History
